I am currently in training for a 4-week ski mountaineering adventure to climb Muztagh Ata (7,546m).
Muztagh Ata is located in China’s Xianjiang province in the far western section of the Pamir Mountain Range close to the borders of China, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Kazakhstan.
April 2018 Training Weekend, Zinal Switzerland
A fantastic and challenging weekend; I met my fellow talented (but slightly mad!) expedition team, and we successfully summited Bishorn (4,153m) in a two day ski tour. I think we are going to have some great chats on the mountain!
My highlight, was staying in the Tracuit mountain hut. I had not previously stayed in a mountain hut, and found the experience strangely a kin to being on a ship. Every objected is the building had a purpose; its own unique place and function. The hut had its own unwritten process on how to use it, but what was interesting you could really feel how the architecture of the building was guiding you through, on how it was designed to be used . I say it is a kin to a ship, because it was ship shape, and it needed to be - when you are at 3300 meters high with limited support, there is no room for clutter.
I learnt that a hut is in so many way similar to a ship; self contained, self sufficient, but elevated into the clouds.

As a side project at work I designed the geodesic dome for the pipe organ made from Dyson fan and vacuum parts.
On a project for Dyson I designed a complete lighting reflector scheme. My role involved LED selection, multi-able iterative design analysis, building prototypes, CAD, testing , full photometric / electrical system design, specification and time management.
Currently the project has been transferred to Dyson's SEA manufacturing team.

Dyson cu beam suspended lighting
My role was to deliver the primary function of the first Dyson Cu beam suspended lights, the photometrics.
I was responsible for technical development of the system from the NPI team through to the start of production.
This included, helping to integrating the start-up Jake Dyson Lighting into Dyson and build the lighting category by learning how best to develop, test, analysis and design a completely new product for the business.
All of these aspects needed to be done to tight time lines and to the demanding high standards of a global company

My role was to deliver a specific assembly on the first Dyson purifier, I was responsible for technical development of the filter catch assembly from initial concepts through to the start of production.

Garden Flim Festival
For last few years I have hosted and curated a garden film festival, which has been mostly dry.
James Leckey Design Leckey is a globally recognised pioneer in the research, design and development of clinically focussed, posturally supportive products. I designed and prototyped a new standing frame, incorporating weight measuring technology and entertainment features, unique to the stander market.
The high resolution prototype was capable enough to user trial with three children. Whilst working with Leckey I liaised closely with them, holding regular overseas meetings and progress reviews to ensure a fast high quality outcome.
My role included designing plastic, metal, prototype electronics and wooden parts from conceptual stages all the way through to manufacture.
I worked with Leckey because they are the best at what they do. We were able to work fast and effectively on a large project with a great outcome for the children.
I was finalist in National Cash Register Design Competition, from over 100 entries.
The brief was to use universal design principles to develop a new self service checkout which will improve the user experience of any individual.
